Why This Trip

Costa Rica has a way of resetting something in you. It's not just the landscapes — though they'll take your breath away — it's the pace, the warmth of the people, and the feeling that nature is running the show.

Each day brings a new landscape and a new rhythm. Mornings begin with tropical fruit, freshly brewed local coffee, and space for an early walk or yoga before the day unfolds. From cloud forest trails in the Talamanca Mountains to wildlife-rich rainforest encounters and long Pacific coast afternoons, the itinerary moves at a pace that feels both adventurous and restorative.

You'll visit a family-run coffee farm, ride horseback through open countryside, soak in volcanic hot springs, and fall asleep to the sound of the jungle.

The route winds from San José into the misty highlands, down through dense rainforest and coastline, and onward to La Fortuna for jungle trails and volcano views. Along the way, there's always space — to linger at a viewpoint, spot a toucan, book a massage, or simply sit with a good book and let the atmosphere do the rest.

This is a trip for people who want to feel the world, not just see it.

Full Itinerary

Day 1

San José — Arrival & Welcome

Arrive into Costa Rica and settle into the rhythm of pura vida. Meet the group and ease into the journey ahead with a relaxed first evening before heading deep into the wild.

Day 2

Osa Peninsula — Jungle, Horses & Waterfalls

We head south to one of the most remote corners of Costa Rica. Arriving near the Osa Peninsula, we transfer into the jungle to a remote riverside ranch.

Spend the afternoon immersed in nature — horseback riding through rainforest trails, along wild beaches, and beneath waterfalls. A raw introduction to Costa Rica at its most untouched.

Day 3

Corcovado — Wildlife & Primary Rainforest

An early start takes us by boat into the heart of Corcovado — one of the most biodiverse places on Earth. With expert local guides, we hike through primary rainforest in search of monkeys, tapirs, scarlet macaws and more. This is true wilderness — dense, alive, and unforgettable.

Day 4

Osa — Swim, Explore & Slow Down

A day to exhale. Swim in warm Pacific waters, explore the surrounding jungle, or simply switch off in one of the most remote and peaceful regions of the country. A chance to absorb the rhythm of the rainforest.

Day 5

Uvita — Kayak, Dolphins & Ocean Air

We journey north along the coast to Uvita — where jungle meets ocean. The afternoon is yours: kayak through mangroves, snorkel in clear waters, or head out by boat in search of dolphins and seasonal whale migrations. Evenings here are slow — sunsets, ocean air, and good food.

Day 6

Uvita — Raft, Waterfalls & Local Culture

A day of adventure or restoration. Option to raft down a tropical river, weaving through lush jungle landscapes, or spend the day at a slower pace — beachside, exploring waterfalls, or visiting a local vanilla or cacao project rooted in the region.

Day 7

Uvita — Surf, Swim & Hidden Beaches

Another day to choose your pace. Surf, swim, explore hidden beaches or simply rest. Designed intentionally to create space — this is where the trip breathes.

Day 8

San Gerardo de Dota — Coffee & Cloud Forest

We leave the coast behind and climb into the cool highlands of San Gerardo de Dota. Visit a family-run coffee plantation and experience the full journey from bean to cup. As evening falls, the cloud forest comes alive — a completely different side of Costa Rica.

Day 9

Turrialba — Quetzals, Mountains & Local Producers

Wake early to search for the elusive quetzal bird before continuing through the mountains. We travel onwards into the Turrialba region, exploring Costa Rica's agricultural heartlands and connecting with local producers — a deeper look into the culture behind the landscapes.

Day 10

Turrialba — Volcano, Cacao & Slow Living

A day rooted in nature and tradition. Explore the landscapes surrounding Turrialba Volcano, visit local cacao farms to understand the journey from bean to chocolate, and enjoy time to slow down in this lesser-travelled region of Costa Rica.

Day 11

San José — Raft, Rest & Farewell

A final full day to choose your pace. For those seeking adventure, optional white-water rafting offers one last adrenaline hit. Or take it slow — walk, swim, and soak in the surroundings before the journey home.

A Rhythm, Not an Itinerary

Cloud forest mornings, wild coastline afternoons, shared meals, wildlife encounters and restorative evenings.

Morning

Wake to birdsong and tropical light. Breakfast is slow — fresh fruit, gallo pinto, strong local coffee. There's time for a walk, some yoga, or simply sitting with the view before the day begins.

Daytime

The heart of the day is adventure. A jungle hike through Corcovado. A horseback ride through green hills. A surf lesson on a wide Pacific beach. Every day brings a different landscape and a new way of moving through it.

Afternoon

Afternoons are spacious and unhurried. Spot wildlife from a canopy walkway, visit a coffee farm, soak in volcanic hot springs, or simply rest in a hammock and let the sounds of the forest settle around you.

Evening

Evenings bring the group together. A long meal at a local restaurant, cold Imperial beers, stories from the day, and the kind of conversation that only happens when you're far from home and completely at ease.

We have just returned from the most epic adventure in Costa Rica led by Alfie Laurence. We had a blast — learnt to surf, whooshed down white water rapids, rode for the first time in 50 years, kayaked, visited waterfalls, hunted for elusive, mythical birds and of course ate the best food ever. Alfie's attention to detail was extraordinary. Anyone booking one of his tours is in for a treat.
Louise & Nick Beamish — Costa Rica Adventure, 2026
From pre-booking, to getting ready for the holiday, and on holiday, we couldn't have asked for anything more. Alfie's attention to detail is unmeasurable and this certainly is his raison d'être. He was so knowledgeable and passionate about the places and activities we experienced.
Karen, Lee, Jo & Martin, England — Costa Rica 2025
Our Costa Rica adventure was made truly special by our guide, Alfie. He has this incredible ability to make sure every single person in the group is happy and looked after, no matter what. His local knowledge is second to none, and it was great to see such a seamless partnership between him and our driver. What really stood out was Alfie's ability to adapt — he stayed calm, kept our spirits high, and adjusted the schedule so we didn't miss a beat.
Gabriel — Costa Rica Adventure, 2026
I've been on a lot of trips, but I have never had anyone as hard-working, charming, efficient and organised as Alfie. He is fully present from the moment he wakes up until we all go to bed.
Kara, Canada — Spain Cultural Student Trip, 2025
I just wanted to put 'pen to paper' after a wonderful trip to Costa Rica. It really was absolutely incredible from start to finish. Alfie was so helpful and managed to get our group aged mid 40's to late 70's hiking, kayaking and surfing. I would highly recommend one of his trips to anyone. They are a real treat and beautifully organised. Our group were delightful and there was never a dull moment!
