Alfie really did us proud on a recent trip to Costa Rica. Seven of us were thoughtfully guided through the central, southwestern and northwestern parts of the country — a delightful coffee farm, a gorgeous jungle hotel, an expedition to spot the rare and truly fabulous quetzal, Corcovado National Park (howler, capuchin and spider monkeys, tapirs, sloths, toucans, scarlet macaws and a crocodile gliding downriver to meet the Pacific), kayaking through mangroves, white water rafting, a horseback gallop along a Pacific beach, and a surfing session that had me briefly convinced I could surf — I didn't realise the instructor was holding the back of my board. Each expedition had a knowledgeable guide to explain the ecosystems, from cloudforest to mangrove. Alfie went above and beyond to give us a vividly memorable, fun, fascinating and hugely enjoyable trip.
