Marrakech to the Roof of North Africa

This five-day adventure begins in Marrakech before heading south into the High Atlas — one of the most dramatic mountain landscapes on the continent. From the valley village of Imlil, you'll hike up to the Tizi Mzik Pass at 2,489m on an acclimatisation day that prepares your body and your mind for what lies ahead.

Day three is the centrepiece: an ascent of Jebel Toubkal itself, summit of North Africa at 4,167 metres. An early start, a steady climb through the still mountain air, and then — at the top — a panoramic sunrise that stretches across the Atlas and beyond. It's the kind of moment that puts everything into perspective.

Throughout, you'll be accompanied by Alfie and Serena alongside expert local guides, a cook, and a muleteer from Toubkal Trekking — a team that knows these mountains intimately and brings a warmth and knowledge that makes the trek as enriching as it is physical.

Accommodation is carefully chosen and characterful: Riad Solange in Marrakech, Riad Atlas Four Seasons in Imlil, the Les Mouflons Refuge at 3,207m for summit eve, and Chambre D'Amis back in Marrakech for the final night. Maximum eight guests. Minimum fuss.

Five Days That Change Your Sense of What's Possible

Mountain air, ancient villages, shared effort, and a summit that earns its view.

The Mountain

The Atlas has a raw, unforgiving beauty. Trekking days are long and honest — your legs earn every metre. Evenings at the refuge are spent over hot food with the particular warmth that comes from a hard day in the hills with good company.

The Summit

Day four is the one everyone talks about. The pre-dawn start, the cold, the headtorches, the moment the sky turns pink and you realise you're standing on the highest point in North Africa. It's a feeling that stays with you.

The Team

Led by Alfie and Serena, with expert local guides from Toubkal Trekking who know these mountains intimately. The combination of personal development, logistical care, and genuine local knowledge makes this more than a trek.

The Group

Maximum eight guests. A shared challenge like Toubkal creates a particular kind of bond quickly. By the summit, you'll feel like you've known each other for years.

We have just returned from the most epic adventure in Costa Rica led by Alfie Laurence. We had a blast — learnt to surf, whooshed down white water rapids, rode for the first time in 50 years, kayaked, visited waterfalls, hunted for elusive, mythical birds and of course ate the best food ever. Alfie's attention to detail was extraordinary. Anyone booking one of his tours is in for a treat.

From pre-booking, to getting ready for the holiday, and on holiday, we couldn't have asked for anything more. Alfie's attention to detail is unmeasurable and this certainly is his raison d'être. He was so knowledgeable and passionate about the places and activities we experienced.

Our Costa Rica adventure was made truly special by our guide, Alfie. He has this incredible ability to make sure every single person in the group is happy and looked after, no matter what. His local knowledge is second to none. What really stood out was Alfie's ability to adapt — he stayed calm, kept our spirits high, and adjusted the schedule so we didn't miss a beat.
Gabriel — Costa Rica Adventure, 2026
I've been on a lot of trips, but I have never had anyone as hard-working, charming, efficient and organised as Alfie. He is fully present from the moment he wakes up until we all go to bed.
Kara, Canada — Spain Cultural Student Trip, 2025
I just wanted to put 'pen to paper' after a wonderful trip to Costa Rica. It really was absolutely incredible from start to finish. Alfie was so helpful and managed to get our group aged mid 40's to late 70's hiking, kayaking and surfing. I would highly recommend one of his trips to anyone. They are a real treat and beautifully organised.
Isabel Platt — Costa Rica Adventure, 2026
Alfie really did us proud on a recent trip to Costa Rica. Seven of us were thoughtfully guided through the central, southwestern and northwestern parts of the country — coffee farms, cloudforests, Corcovado National Park, kayaking through mangroves, white water rafting, and a horseback gallop along a Pacific beach. Alfie went above and beyond to give us a vividly memorable, fun, fascinating and hugely enjoyable trip.

Alfie will pace the group well and everyone is looked after, but this trip rewards those who arrive having put in some preparation at home.
Well-worn walking boots, a warm mid-layer and windproof jacket for the summit, a head torch with spare batteries, sunglasses, sun cream, a day pack, and a refillable water bottle. Trekking equipment hire is included in the price. A full kit list is sent after booking.
No — international flights to Marrakech (RAK) are not included, giving you flexibility to book from whichever airport suits you. Marrakech is well served from most major UK airports. Alfie will share guidance on ideal flight times once you're booked.
Characterful and carefully chosen throughout. You begin and end in Marrakech at Riad Solange — a beautiful riad base. In Imlil it's the Riad Atlas Four Seasons. On summit eve you'll stay at Les Mouflons Refuge at 3,207m — simple, warm, and perfectly positioned. The final night is at Chambre D'Amis back in Marrakech.
